BUTLER, Pa. — A Butler man is accused of meeting underage girls while he was chaperoning for a local youth church group, then blackmailing them to send him naked pictures and videos of sex acts.
State Police in Butler say they received three reports to Childline about 19-year-old Devin Cupps having inappropriate relationships with girls. Troopers say Cupps met several victims “through the Jesus Alive and Living Youth Group where he was a chaperone on numerous occasions.” That youth group is part of the All Saints Parish, which has five churches in the Butler area and is part of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Police allege Cupps exchanged nude pictures and videos with the girls on Snapchat, then created fake accounts to extort the victims. Court paperwork say Cupps “threatened to expose other pictures she had sent and that they knew where she lived and would get her expelled from school.” One victim told police Cupps made “grossly sexual comments toward her such as he wanted to have sex with her while she was sleeping.” A search warrant of Cupps’ phone revealed “numerous intimate images of known and unknown females.”
The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh said in a statement to Channel 11, “We are aware of the allegations and a police investigation. Since being notified by the State Police of their investigation, the parish has cooperated fully.”
Cupps is facing a long list of charges, including unlawful contact with minors, corruption of minors, extortion, and possessing child pornography.
