NBA Draft 2022: Seton Hall’s Jared Rhoden to play Summer League with Kings after going undrafted

Seton Hall's Jared Rhoden will play Summer League with the Sacramento Kings with the opportunity to sign a Two-Way contract.

After going undrafted during the NBA Draft, Seton Hall star Jared Rhoden has found a new home.

The 6-foot-6 Rhoden will play Summer League with the Sacramento Kings with the opportunity to sign a Two-Way Contract, where he would split time between the big club and its G League affiliate, a league source told NJ Advance Media.

Rhoden had 15 workouts with 14 NBA teams, including the Kings twice, as NJ Advance Media reported Wednesday.

”Whatever team gives me the opportunity is not going to regret it and it’s going to be the best choice they made,” he said Wednesday.

The Kings selected Iowa star Keegan Murray with the No. 4 pick and then traded the No. 37 pick to the Dallas Mavericks for future picks.

The Kings will play the NBA champion Golden State Warriors on July 2 in the California Classic, followed by games against the Miami Heat on July 3 and the Los Angeles Lakers on July 5. After the California Classic, the Kings will travel to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League.

Rhoden averaged 15.5 points and 6.7 rebounds this past season en route to All-Big East First Team honors. During workouts, he tried to show NBA teams that his shooting form has improved after he shot 39% from the field last season and 34% from deep.

“Absolutely, I’ve gone to workouts and shot the ball extremely well,” he said. “I think I surprised a lot of NBA teams with my ability to do so. Obviously because my numbers don’t always show that during my college career but I’ve definitely wowed some teams with my ability to shoot and I’ve had some really good numbers in that way.”

Rhoden impressed NBA scouts enough to earn a call-up from the NBA G League Camp in Chicago last month to the NBA Combine, where he teamed up with Rutgers guard Ron Harper Jr., who signed a Two-Way deal with the Toronto Raptors.

“He has an opportunity but it’s probably going to take him a minute to work his way into our league based on what team he goes to, whether he spends time in the G League or not,” one NBA scout said of Rhoden at the Combine. “But he’s a helluva scorer and he’s got great length. His measurables are good. He’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, and there’s a place for guys like that. They just have to find the right spot.”

Rhoden knew he might not be drafted and was prepared for what lay ahead.

“I’m just taking it step by step,” he said Wednesday. “Whatever happens, just as long as I get my foot in the door, I know I’m going to be able to contribute and make a name for myself like I’ve always done my whole life.
