The Pella Christian baseball and softball teams each aim to turn the course of their seasons around tonight as they host a pair of Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders against Newton.

The Eagles softball squad traveled to Newton back on June 8th, where they fell 11-1. The two teams come into tonight with exact opposite records in their last five games. The Cardinals are 4-1 in last five contests, while P.C. 1-4 in their last five games. Pella Christian’s most recent loss came in a hard-fought matchup against Class 4A’s #6 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes. Despite not grabbing the win, senior Sydney Nunnikhoven believes the team’s effort provided a much-needed confidence boost heading into their doubleheader with the Cardinals.

“Momentum in sports is huge. DC-G is a good school and putting out a game like that gives us a lot of confidence. Starting here, we know that Newton is a game that we can play really well in; and so, I think getting the confidence from this game gives us a lot of hope for our future ones.”

The Eagles and Cardinals baseball teams have struggled lately, each dropping four of their last five games. Newton defeated P.C. 3-2 when the two teams met on June 8th, despite pitcher Micah DeHaan giving up just one earned run.

Tonight’s baseball and softball doubleheaders between Pella Christian and Newton begin at 5:30 p.m.
