An hours-long headache is over in Plano where an 18-wheeler jackknifed Thursday night, closing the south-bound side of Central Expressway just past the Bush Turnpike.

Reports say a south-bound convoy of flatbed trucks was hauling segments of massive concrete culverts when one of the rigs crashed and dumped over on its side at the Renner Road exit.

This caused the diesel fuel to spill from the saddle tanks, creating a Hazmat situation. Because of the environmental threat, Plano Hazmat crews were assisted by DPS and the Environmental Protection Agency.

A heavy-duty wrecker was called in but had to stand by while the diesel spill was contained and cleaned up. Heavy equipment was also needed to remove the concrete culvert.

The driver was taken to the hospital to get checked out but Plano Fire-Rescue reported no major injuries.
