A man convicted of attempted murder who fled an Albany courthouse before that verdict could be read was found dead in Florida two weeks later.
Michael Green, aka Michael Edwards, 36, was convicted after a jury trial of one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B Violent Felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, before the Hon. Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court Friday afternoon.
An indictment alleged that on or about April 13th, 2020, in the area of 119 Old Loudon Road in Colonie, Green fired multiple rounds from a handgun, in the direction of that address, while inside of a moving vehicle. The building was occupied by several people at the time, including children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old.
On June 10th, he fled the courthouse was on the run ever since.
Police in Orlando, Florida say on June 23rd, just after 2:00 PM officers responded to assist U.S. Marshalls with an investigation into a suspect who had barricated himself in an apartment and made suicidal threats.
After a 5 hour standoff, police say the man, later identified as Green, was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
On July 15, Green's case was officially dismissed. The Albany County District Attorney's Office cited "the interest of justice."
