Rocky’s Hot Mess Express is a boutique located within the Grand Central Court building at 122 E. Grand Ave. in downtown Ponca City. The store offers a variety of screen print tees and boutique items.

During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, owner Danielle Nall was watching various Tik-Tok videos and saw a lot of resin work. She felt it would be something fun to do and initially started with the name Rocky’ Resin. The “Rocky” in the store’s name is derived from a nickname that Nall’s great grandfather had given her.

Nall began to dabble in screen prints and tie dye shirts during the beginnings of her business.

“[It started] just doing small things for a few people. Then, I started doing more special orders, started doing craft shows, and everybody started wanting storefront,” said Danielle Nall.

Nall was shopping at Grand Central Court during a Main Street Ladies Night event and asked about pricing to set up a space for a storefront.

The business grew via word of mouth and attending craft shows such as Octoberfest,

Since Rocky’s Hot Mess Express opened during the pandemic, supplies were a struggle for the business. The height of the Delta variant also caused some difficulties.

Rocky’s offers a variety of custom t-shirts, jewelry, jeans, and handmade bath bombs. The bath bombs are made in Arkansas by a friend of Nall’s she met through Tik-Tok. Nall prefers to get the products for the store from other small business owners like herself.

The store is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4 pm to 7 pm; and on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm as Nall works full time during the week doing at the Ponca City Country Club doing accounting and human resource work. She hopes to be able to eventually hire an employee to work the boutique during the day while she works at the Country Club.

“Eventually I want to be able to be open five to six days a week,” said Nall. “I feel like I’ve come a long way from me doing it in a random upstairs bedroom that we had, to actually doing it in a shop.”

Nall has seen a lot of growth from Rocky’s Hot Mess Express and witnessed her random curiosity turn into a full fledged business.
