Heat continues in Twin Lakes Area, but triple digit temperatures continue to be elusive

It has been downright hot in the Twin Lakes Area the past couple of weeks, and the hottest day of the year so far if forecast Saturday, so it’s hard to believe how long it’s been since an official temperature in the triple digits has been recorded in Mountain Home. Would you believe it’s been nearly 10 years?

A check of the weather records at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, shows the last time a temperature in the triple digits occurred was Aug. 5, 2012 when the thermometer hit 103 degrees.

You have to go back nearly four years for the last time the mercury hit 99 degrees. That was July 14, 2018.

So far this year, our highest temperature has been 96 degrees which has happened three times. Last year, the highest temperature was 97 degrees which happened six times.

Going back to the summer of 2012, it was one of the hottest ever in Mountain Home. That year saw 19 days with temperatures of 100 or more and seven days with a high of 99. On June 28 that year, a high of 107 was recorded.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Mountain Home happened Aug. 9, 1934, when the high was 114. Six of the top 10 hottest temperatures ever in Mountain Home happened during the summer of 1934.

The second highest temperature in Mountain Home is 112 degrees which has happened three times, including Aug. 3, 2011.
