For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Cavaliers have picked a member of the Mobley family.

With the No. 49 pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected center Isaiah Mobley out of USC. Mobley is Evan Mobley’s older brother. The younger Mobley, of course, was the Cavs’ No. 3 pick out of USC last year.

The elder Mobley is considered a good passer for a big man and is listed at 6’10 and 240 pounds. He was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school in 2019 and ended up playing three years at USC. His junior season was his best, as he averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebound and 0.9 blocks per game. Isaiah Mobley was also named All-PAC 12 last season.

As an NBA prospect, he’s not at the same level as his brother. There’s a player to be developed here, but it’s not going to be an immediate impact. It might make sense for him to sign a two-way deal vs. a regular contact and spend most of his time with the Cleveland Charge in the G League. Even if he makes the 15-man main roster, he is at best an emergency player next season.

This is the pick the Cavs acquired earlier today in a trade with the Sacramento Kings. Mobley also did not work out for any team in the lead up to the draft.
