Eureka Police arrested a man for shooting a woman with a BB gun on Wednesday.

According to Brittany Powell, “On June 22, 2022 at about 1:30 p.m., an officer was patrolling the neighborhood when hailed by two females at California and W Grotto. The victim, a 60 year old female, said she had been shot in the arm after confronting her friend’s daughter’s boyfriend at an apartment on the 2900 block of California St.”

Powell said, “It was determined the female had been shot with a BB gun and declined an ambulance.” The officer arrested the suspect, 21-year-old Tyler RoseFontaine for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.

And now the violence has become mainstream. It is symptomatic of a society heading towards solving problems using violence. Two hundred seventy-five unprovoked killings in the nation since the beginning of the year. People illegally carrying hand held weapons in their vehicles for protection. Children and old people dying! The level of hatred is alarming. Good thing local schools are not open.

I don’t want to negate the illegality or danger, but in the 1960’s me and my friends used to have BB gun fights ever so often and my brother and I used to throw darts at one another with them sometimes piercing about a 1/2 inch into one of us. They were super dull which limited their effectiveness. We had absolutely zero adult supervision, live or caring.

I too survived many neighborhood BB-gun “fights” in the late ’50s w/protective clothing and ski googles! Assault with a “deadly” weapon and “criminal” threats is a real stretch…

Your guns were weak af in the 50s we used to have bb gun fights in the late 90s that were gas powered and all 🙂

Well ..I had a Benjamin bb gun that you could pump up to 22 caliber velocity…. Mid 60s… Cardboard armor and old biker helmets for protection.

I had a fellow student in H.S. We played baseball from probably nine years old on. He and his friend, (he wasn’t a friend of mine), messing around with a BB gun. My baseball friend age 13 was shot in the eye and was blinded for life. That was the last time he played ball, which was too bad, because he could hit the leather off a baseball. He had unbelievable coordination. My father told me that if I aimed at someone or something I had better make sure I knew the consequences if I pulled the trigger. I guess not everyone is lucky, but why temp fate. Doctors can’t replace any eye like a knee or hip.

Yeah BB guns are good for maybe killing a gopher at 50 feet, but that’s how they want to define things.

“BB gun” may be a misnomer here.

Some air rifles these days, some of which fire both BBs and pellets, can reach velocities that rival .22LR firearms and can in-fact be deadly. They can be a very different thing from the Red Ryder BB guns of yesteryear.

I’d love more specifics on what this “BB gun” was. That would probably tell us whether or not the “deadly weapon” charge is justified or a stretch.

Are you crazy? You’ll shoot your eye out. We used to quote another movie from the late 70s, “6 pumps stings, 8 leaves a welt, 10 breaks the skin. Give it 11.”

As far as deadly, 5-15 years ago we were killing rats stealing our chicken feed with 10 pumps at 20 yards with 40 year old Daisys.

As a kid, give me a clutch ball bearing, or basic cats eye marble, and a wristrocket/slingshot and I’ll show you a dead squirrel trying to poach from our tack room.

It’s tough to shoot out an eye when you’re wearing eye protection. We weren’t crazy but we had plenty of fun. No eyeballs were lost. Now a rock fight was a different story…

He’s nastier than this. He’s beat his girlfriend repeated (19yo) and she has refused to press charges each time. It’s beyond ugly 🙁

Can she get lead poisoning from those? I don’t know. Maybe she should get them removed.

BBs are copper coated steel.

My old Daisy can be single loaded with lead pellets. Makes for better penetration when shooting rats. Though we prefer steel or copper in case we miss.

I hate to tell you this but denial of abuse is one of several survival instincts in abusive relationships. If he is abusive, she knows the cops won’t be there when he decides to punish her for telling, and she doesn’t want to die. If you are really her friend just be there for her, especially if and when she asks for help.

He is not abusive and I’m not getting beaten I don’t ask for help because nothing is happening. Please stop saying he is when he’s not.

I didn’t accuse anyone of anything. I was explaining what happens in abusive relationships. You’ll notice I used “if” several times.

Take care.

I don’t have to use my real name if I don’t want too I don’t like drama. Half of the people on here don’t even use there real name. I know my relationship better then anyone else. So respectfully have a great day 😁

So….the 60 year old ” Confronted” him at ” an” apartment. Details would really help here. By my reading of this, it’s possible she was the initial aggressor. Or not.

Discouraging yet predictable cultural response of 1. Denial. 2. Victim Blaming.. 2.Minimization. 4. Justification.

Gender-centric violence aka: assaults , abuse and murder of women, is a hate crime. But generations of holding women as property and subhuman entities got us here, where not much has changed.

Calling this coward a man is one more nauseating cultural lie. ♾️
