The whirlwind romance between American pop singer Mariah Carey and Australian billionaire James Packer came to an end in the latter half of 2016. But not without a proposal taking place and a massive diamond being offered.

The casino billionaire, who is 54 years old, presented the "Without You" singer, 52, with an engagement ring that is officially the most expensive celebrity diamond ever. Looking back, one can say it's such a waste Carey and Packer did not last forever.

According to DC Jewellery, the stunning 35-carat diamond ring that James used to propose to his girlfriend cost a staggering AU$13.2million (USD$10million).

According to the New York Post, one of Mariah's business managers allegedly "quietly" sold the ring to a jeweler in Los Angeles for a price of AU$2.78million (USD$2.1million) in 2018.

When asked about it at the time, her representative informed Page Six that Mariah has been incredibly vocal about her intention to just move on and move forward as positively as she could.

This involves letting go of both emotional and physical baggage, including this old engagement ring that was given to her - regardless of how much it costs.

According to a source, Mariah and the jeweler "struck a confidentiality agreement," which suggests that the terms of the ring's sale may never be made public. The ring in question is a diamond solitaire engagement ring.

An insider claims that Mariah Carey's public relations team has threatened the jeweller with legal action in the event that he discloses her identify.

A member of Carey's entourage however, the AU$13.2 million price tag. This insider said there is no reason for Carey to sell the ring over alleged financial problems, because she had none at the tiem. Throughout her career, she was able to amass "several mansions," vast music collection, and "successful tours and residencies."

After a romance that lasted for a little over a year, Mariah and James, a casino billionaire from Sydney, announced their engagement in January of 2016.

But in October of that year, it became public knowledge that the couple had broken up, amidst claims that James, who had been married twice before, had'reservations' about Mariah's profession in reality television.

After some time had passed, the wealthy businessman expressed to The Australian that their fleeting connection had been a "mistake" for both of them.

At present, Carey is seeing a dancer named Bryan Tanaka, who is 39 years old, while James is involved in a committed relationship with a socialite in her early to mid-40s named Kylie Lim.
