Weekend Highlights: Craft Beverage Expo, Festivals and More

It’s another busy summer weekend ahead around Centre County.

From State College to Snow Show and Bellefonte to Millheim, the schedule is packed with returning festivals, a carnival, concerts, family events and the annual Summer Craft Beverage Expo.

We’ve compiled some of the highlights below, but you can find even more on our community calendar.

CENTRAL PA THEATRE & DANCE FEST
Friday through Sunday
Various locations, State College

The fifth annual Central PA Theatre and Dance Fest will feature more than 100 artists in dozens of free and ticketed performances, workshops and readings. The festival will hold a kick-off event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza on South Fraser Street with performance previews, activities, crafts and food available for purchase from Duck Donuts and Juana’s.

Presented by local theater company Tempest Productions, the festival showcases Centre County’s professional and pre-professional theater, dance and other performing arts groups. See the full weekend lineup at centralpatheatre.com.

ARTS FESTIVAL AT TITAN MARKET
9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday

Check out work by local artisans and craftspeople, enjoy live music and try some tasty food at Titan Market’s two-day summer arts festival.

MILLHEIM WALKFEST OF ARTS AND MUSIC
2-8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday
Downtown Millheim

The second annual Millheim Walkfest features three days of live music on five stages, more than 30 artists from throughout Pennsylvania and children’s activities. Food trucks and other local vendors will be on hand throughout the weekend, and an antiques alley will be located on Poplar Street on Saturday. Friends of the East Penns Valley Library’s summer book sale also will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Millheim Fire Company.

FRIDAY IN THE ‘FONTE
5-8 p.m. Friday
Talleyrand Park Annex, Bellefonte

Downtown Bellefonte’s free monthly celebration will feature a live musical performance by Miss Melanie and food and beverage pop-ups from Savory Station, Bonnie Blues, Axemann Brewery, Big Spring Spirits, Bees Knees Coffee, Sunset Slush Happy Valley, The Cakeshop by Tati and Good Intent Cider. Activities are planned for all ages, including a therapeutic horse from Rising Hope, balloon art and rock painting.

Walk around the park to visit vendors Fez Records, Federalist Studios, Sisters’ Sunflowers, Rivera Artistry, Hannah Simon Art, Julia Hamilton Equine Art, Blackbranch Farm and others. Local Historia will be offering free historical walking tours; Felicity’s Pet Supplies will be set up with treats; and Belle Mercantile will have a pop-up with items showcasing various vendors from the store on South Spring Street.

SNOW SHOE CARNIVAL
6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Snow Shoe Park grounds, Route 144, Snow Shoe

Enjoy rides, games and food at the annual carnival hosted by Snow Shoe Lions Club, VFW and Fire Company. Friday features Crystal Confer Karaoke and Chris Schenck, and Saturday will conclude with a fireworks show at 10 p.m.

STATE COLLEGE SPIKES VS. TRENTON THUNDER
6:35 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, University Park

The Spikes will eclipse 2 million fans in total attendance over the franchise’s history as they finish out their five-game homestand with a pair of games against the Thunder. Fans can enter at this weekend’s and next weekend’s games to become the Spikes’ commemorative Two Millionth Fan, with the winner receiving free tickets for life, a shopping spree at the team store, a guaranteed luxury suite night for one game each season and more.

Friday is Jersey Night — wear your favorite sports jersey to the ballpark for a ticket discount — and will feature a kids run the bases. Saturday is First Responders Night, kids run the bases and a postgame fireworks show. For more promotions and tickets, visit the Spikes website.

PENN’S WOODS MUSIC FESTIVAL
7 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Penn State Music Building, University Park

Penns Woods Music Festival wraps up its summer concert schedule with a pair of performances. Friday’s concert is “The Cuban Connection,” a celebration of Afro-Cuban jazz featuring Penn State School of Music faculty and alumni and international instrumentalists sharing stories and tunes from their visits to Cuba.

Saturday’s concert will find the festival orchestra performing Jessie Montgomery’s Overture (2022), Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1, Op.11 and Beethoven’s Symphony No.2 in D Major, Op.36

VILLAGE GREEN CONCERT

The Lemont Village Association continues its annual summer music series with a performance by Group Therapy and ice cream cones provided by Scout Troop 367. Concerts are free but donations for renovations to the Granary are welcomed.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday
State College Alliance Church parking lot, 1221 W. Whitehall Rd., State College

Bring the kids for an exciting day of all things trucks hosted by Centre Region Parks and Recreation with Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. The free event is a hands-on experience to touch, climb and honk the horns on a variety of vehicles. The first hour will be sensory-friendly with no horn honking. No registration required.

PENN STATE POWWOW
11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday
Mount Nittany Middle School, 656 Brandywine Drive, State College

The 16th annual traditional American Indian Powwow features traditional American Indian dancers and Native drum groups from reservations and communities across the United States and Canada, vendors selling Native-made arts and goods and native foods available for purchase. The Grand Entry of Dancers begins at noon both days. Admission is free for the event, which attracted more than 6,000 people when it was last held in person.

PALMER MUSEUM OF ART COMMUNITY DAY
1-4 p.m. Saturday
Palmer Museum, Curtin Road, University Park

Visitors of all ages are invited to celebrate the museum’s 50th birthday with art, gallery tours and hands-on activities during a special summer Community Day. Join guest artist and educator Erin Bolger Welsh in an art-making activity as she provides fun demonstrations of her own process in creating abstract work.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
4-7 p.m. Saturday
Greater Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, 1667 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte

This second annual Strawberry Festival will include crafts, children’s activities and gift baskets along with a menu including strawberry shortcake with ice cream, sloppy joes, hot dogs, snacks, iced tea and lemonade. Proceeds benefit the church’s outreach ministries.

MOVIE IN THE PARK
7:30 p.m. Saturday
Talleyrand Park, 320 W. High St., Bellefonte

The Bellefonte Woman’s Club’s third summer of free movies in the park continues with “Jumanji” (1995). Admission starts at 7:30 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk. Bring chairs, blankets, flashlights and money for snacks. The night also includes prize giveaways. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

CRAFT BEVERAGE EXPO
Noon-3 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Sunday
Talleyrand Park, 320 W. High St., Bellefonte

The Central Pennsylvania Tasting Trail’s fifth annual summer expo will showcase local craft beer, wine, cider and spirits during two three-hour sessions. Tickets are $25 in advance/$30 at the door (if available) and include tastings at each Trail member tent and gifts. Food trucks and vendors also will be on hand. DJs Gingerman and Timmy Tatts provide music during the first session, while Ted & Molly perform during the second. Tours of the Roopsburg Brewer beer cellars are available for an additional $16. Designated driver tickets are $10.

CENTRED OUTDOORS

Colyer Lake, 211 Lake Road, Centre Hall

Centred Outdoors heads to Colyer Lake this week for guided hikes of about 2 miles. Meet at the Centred Outdoors welcome table to join up with a group and hike the trail while learning about Colyer Lake’s ecosystem and characteristics from program guides. Guided hikes also will be hosted at 6 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

ACOUSTIC BREW CONCERTS
4 p.m., and 7 p.m. Sunday
Boal Barn Amphitheater, 163 Boal Avenue, Boalsburg

Atwater-Donnelly play American and Celtic folk music during two Acoustic Brew Concert Series performances. The first is a free kids folk show from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by the main event at 7 p.m. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $20 for adults and $5 for children and Happy Dishes food truck will be on hand.

SUMMER MUSIC PICNIC SERIES
4-7:30 p.m., Sunday
South Hills School of Business and Technology North Lawn, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College

South Hills’ Summer Music Picnic Series continues with bluegrass favorites Tussey Mountain Moonshiners performing a free concert at 6 p.m. Grounds open at 4 p.m. for picnicking, with the South Hills hot dog cart on site.

A staple of summers in Bellefonte for 40 years, the annual free concert series continues with Anchor & Arrow. Lawn chairs or blankets are suggested.
