Former Sycamore Jake Laravia taken 19th overall in NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WTWO/WAWV) – Former Indiana State Sycamore Jake Laravia was taken 19th overall in the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who then traded his rights to the Memphis Grizziles. Laravia played the 2021-22 season with Wake Forest where he was named 2nd Team All ACC after averaging 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists as a junior.

Prior to that he played two seasons with the Sycamores and was named 2nd Team All MVC. In two seasons he averaged 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds in 55 games. Laravia started to climb the draft board after a miscommunication regarding his age. He is 20 years old and had to clear that up with NBA team executives, some of whom thought he was 22.
