The city of Kinston could soon get a makeover.
The NCDOT released new information on what Highway 70 going though the city could look like.
People who live in Kinston may have a say in what Highway 70 will look like in the future.
NCDOT is asking for input on 21 miles of the highway stretching from La Grange to Dover.
“Looking at it, it’s really cool. I have never seen anything like that before and if you understand what you are looking at, it’s really beneficial,” Tiki Richardson of Kinston said.
The bypass is designed to make Highway 70 a more efficient highway.
“I think it’s helpful because it gives you something to look forward to,” Richardson said.
“A lot of times, when they do decide to do roadwork, we aren’t aware of it and so, it’s better to know if you will detour when you are on your way to work instead of just running into it,” Shatoya Newborn of Kinston said.
While still in the early stages, NCDOT officials said seeing what could come to the area will help people decide whether they want this project or not.
“I think just letting people know ahead of time, that’s a good thing,” Newborn said.
If approved, this will cost more than $700 million.
