Watertown's Bill Weber receives NHSACA Coach of the Year honor

SIOUX FALLS — Bill Weber of Watertown has been named the national Assistant Coach of the Year for boys sports by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. 

To be considered for this award a nominee has been determined to have outstanding coaching longevity and win-loss record, championship years, awards received and service to the coaching profession and to the athletes of the State of South Dakota.

Other national Coach of the Year winners from South Dakota include Kurt Schultz of Baltic, boys' cross country; and Paul Hendry of Rapid City Stevens, girls' track and field.

Weber, Schultz and Henry were honored Wednesday during the National Awards Banquet held at the NHSACA 53rd Annual Conference in Altoona, Iowa. This annual event is attended by athletic directors and coaches in 19 sports from throughout the United States.

Weber also was named as a Carey E McDonald Citation winner.

Other national Coach of the Year finalists from South Dakota included Scott Embry of Lincoln, assistant for girls' sports; Randy Marso of Brandon Valley, athletic director; De Smet native Bill Martens of Aberdeen Central, girls' cross country; Jeff Halseth of Sioux Falls Lincoln, golf; Ryan Beier of Sioux Falls O'Gorman, soccer; Maridee Dossett of Madison, special sports (gymnastics); Pat Moller of Mitchell, tennis; and Misty Larson of Chester, boys' track and field.

Castlewood native Jim Dorman of Sioux Falls and David Dolan of Rapid City were inducted into the 2022 NHSACA Hall of Fame. Doland also received the Dwight T Keith Award recipient (highest national award that the NHSACA presents).
