EIHP started in Dubuque County in 1971, but later fizzled out.
A new board brought everything back to life 10 years ago.
To date, there are 130 campers, aged 9-16, and 30 teenage mentors, all volunteers who put in hundreds of hours of work prepare and run the camp.
Ben Urbain, EIHP Board Member, spoke with Iowa's News Now about the program Thursday.
"We really appreciate everybody's help," said Urbain. "Tonight we have a dance, tomorrow it's parent's day, and a lot of kids' horses will go home tomorrow night. And, that will be the end of camp."
The camp will take place until Saturday, June 25th.
