Growing East Bay grass fire on Altamont Pass

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Crews are battling a new brush fire burning in Alameda County, one of multiple fires that have broken out across the Bay Area on Thursday afternoon.

The grass fire, being called the Tesla Incident, is burning near Tesla Road and Corral Hollow Road on the Altamont Pass and has already burned an estimated 100 acres, CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Chuck Carroll told KCBS Radio.

It started at about 5:30 p.m.

Aerial footage showed active flames in rural grassland.

Carroll said it's believed a vehicle hit a tree and ignited the fire.

The rate is spread is described as "moderate to critical," he added.
