Busy weekend in Colorado Springs with multiple major events

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - This weekend downtown Colorado Springs will be bustling with activity thanks to multiple major events taking place from Friday to Sunday.

Friday June 24:

  • Fan Fest
    • 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in downtown Colorado Springs
    • The free 10-block street party kicks off the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with stunts performed by the Nitro Circus Freestyle Motocross Demo Team, courtesy of Sam and Kathy Guadagnoli. 
  • Switchbacks vs. San Antonio FC
    • 7:00 p.m. at Weidner Field
  • Colorado Avalanche vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup Final
    • 6:00 p.m. at Ball Arena in Denver, but expect Colorado Springs bars to be packed with fans looking to watch the game on TV.
    • The Avs have the opportunity to dethrone the 2-time NHL champs at home Friday night, and win their first Stanley Cup in two decades.
  • Road closures, 1:30-11:30 p.m.
    • Bijou Street between Nevada and Cascade Avenues
    • Kiowa Street between Nevada and Cascade Avenues
    • Pikes Peak Avenue between Nevada and Cascade Avenues
    • Tejon Street between Platte Avenue to Colorado Avenue

Saturday June 25:

  • Hall of Fame Festival Parade
    • 10:00 a.m.
    • The free parade will begin near the Pioneers Museum and head west on Vermijo Street toward the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. Along with world-class athletes, the parade will feature parachuters from the Air Force’s Wings of Blue along with a flyover courtesy of the National Museum of World War II Aviation.

  • Road closures 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.
    • Vermijo Avenue between Nevada Avenue and S. Sierra Madre

Sunday June 26:

  • Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
    • Racing starts at 7:30 a.m.
    • All tickets are sold out, but people can listen to live Flag-to-Flag radio provided by KRDO Radio, or watch the event live on Mobil 1's Facebook Page.
  • Road closures
    • Pikes Peak will be closed to guests without tickets to the Hill Climb
