Man sentenced to life in prison for death of foster child and neglect of other children

(Fargo, ND) --  One of two parents involved in the death of a five-year-old girl is set to serve life in prison.

Tokio man Erich Longie, Jr. will serve life in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including First-Degree Felony Murder within Indian Country, Child Abuse in Indian Country, and Child Neglect in Indian Country.

Erich's co-defendant, Tammie Longie, pled guilty to Second-Degree Murder, three counts of Child Abuse in Indian Country, and Child Neglect in Indian Country. Tammie is scheduled for sentencing on August 9th.

Multiple officials from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation entered the home of Tammie and Erich on May 6th, 2020. Officials say that is when they found a deceased 5-year-old child in the basement with visible bruising across the body.
