13-acre wildfire in Campbell Park area of Anchorage now 50% contained

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A large wildfire sparked in the Campbell Park area of Anchorage on Thursday.

The fire, north of Dowling Road and west of Elmore Road, reached 13.7 acres and is now fully contained, according to Anchorage Fire Department Assistant Chief Alex Boyd.

The Office of Emergency Management said 17 Anchorage Fire Department units, two helicopters, three air tankers, the Division of Forestry and JBER fire crews responded to the fire.

Temporary flight restrictions were in place at Merrill Field because of the fire, but they have since been lifted.

Anchorage police wrote in a community update at 11:30 p.m. that all roads around the area had been reopened.
