EUGENE — The 2022 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships are underway at Hayward Field for a four-day run to determine which athletes will represent Team USA at next month’s World Athletics Championships, also in Eugene.

In the early action Thursday, sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson failed to advance out of the women’s 100-meter heats, posting a time of 11.31 to place fifth in her first-round race.

Cole Hocker did not qualify for the final in the men’s 1,500 meters, but his former Oregon Ducks teammate, Cooper Teare, did advance. Other ex-Ducks Sam Prakel and Johnny Gregorek also move on to the 1,500 final, as does current UO runner Reed Brown.

The Thursday schedule included event finals in the women’s hammer, women’s long jump and men’s discus. There also were plenty of events on the track, with heats in races ranging from the 100 meters to the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

More than three dozen athletes with Oregon ties competed on Day 1. Here’s a recap with the results from all of the day’s finals and preliminaries, as well as a recap of how the athletes with Oregon ties fared.
