Firefighters battle brush fire near Pleasanton Ridge; evacuations lifted

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Mandatory evacuations stemming from a brush fire that ignited near Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park have been lifted.

At 7:35 p.m. on Thursday, Alameda County officials said residents of Kilkare Road in Sunol and Golden Eagle Estates in Pleasanton could return to their homes.

The Alameda County Fire Department and CAL FIRE initially ordered Kilkare residents to evacuate south on Kilkare to Niles Canyon Road, and residents of Golden Eagle Estates to evacuate to Foothill Road and head north. Officials characterized the fire as "rapidly approaching" the area.

The fire was first reported Thursday afternoon west of I-680 near 4549 River Rock Hill Rd. CAL FIRE crews are responding to the scene. At least one structure has been damaged and several nearby houses are threatened.

The fire is estimated at 65 acres in size. Forward progress has been stopped.
