More Kit Carson County Fair Information

County Events Day
County Events Day is scheduled for Thursday, July 28 at the 2022 Kit Carson County Fair. Come enjoy a free barbecue and watermelon feed served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and the County Events Day arena performance beginning at 12:45 p.m. in the grandstands.
Contest lists, rules and entry forms can be found in the 2022 Kit Carson County Fair Premium Book or can be picked up from the Extension Office located at the fairgrounds.
A new addition this year is the Keyhole Race. Contestants for arena events are strongly urged to enter early. Entries are limited and late entries will not be accepted.
Back numbers for arena events must be picked up Thursday out by the chutes immediately prior to start of the afternoon festivities. They are NOT available at the Fair Office.
Early entries for County Events Day will be accepted at the Kit Carson County Extension Office. Mail-in entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, July 22. Mail to: KCC Fair, 817 15th St., Burlington, Co. 80807.
Entries will also be accepted at the rodeo ticket booth located at the east end of the grandstands at the KCC Fairgrounds on Monday, July 25 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
No pre-entry is needed for kids’ events on track.

County Event Day barbecue sponsors include Hendricks Realty, Flagler News/Mile Saver Shopper, Eastern Colorado Bank – Burlington, TBK Bank, Dave Hornung, and Stan Hitchcock. The watermelon feed is sponsored by Farm Credit of Southern Colorado.

Catch-It-Lamb contest
The 2022 Catch-it-Lamb contest will take place Tuesday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. on the track, immediately followed by the Working Stock Dog Trials.
Kit Carson County Fair and catch-it-lamb superintendent Tami Williams would like to encourage youth ages 8-12 (as of Dec. 31, 2022) to enter. Contestants must be currently enrolled in the KCC 4-H program and enroll in the market lamb project for the 2022-2023 year.
Rules and application forms may be picked up at the Extension/Fair Office. Entries are limited. Applications must be turned in to the Extension/Fair Office at any time prior to Monday noon of fair. Call 346-5571 or 346-0111 for more information.

Catch-It-Calf contest
The 2022 Catch-it-Calf contest will be held Friday, July 29 at 7:45 p.m. prior to the start of the PRCA Rodeo.
The Kit Carson County Fair, The Burlington Rotary Club and contest superintendent Cary Hatfield encourage youth 12-18 years of age (as of Dec. 31, 2022) to enter. Contestants must be currently enrolled in a Kit Carson County 4-H club or FFA chapter and enroll in the market beef project for the 2022-2023
4-H/FFA year to participate.
Rules and application forms can be picked up at the Extension/Fair Office. Entries are limited. The completed application and current signed physical must be returned to the Extension/Fair Office any time prior to 5 p.m. on Wednesday of fair.

Rabbits and poultry
Check-in for 4-H and Open Class poultry and rabbits will be Sunday, July 24 from 1-5 p.m. Judging will take place Monday, July 25 at 9 a.m.
Pre-entry is required and due to the Extension/Fair Office by Friday, July 1 at 4:00 p.m. There will be a $10 fee charged for late entries. Entry tags (small tag with duplicate copies) and 2022 KCC Fair Premium books are available at the Extension/Fair Office, and at various businesses throughout the county. The Fair Book is also available online at www.kitcarsoncounty.colorado.gov/fair-grounds/county-fair.

Sheep Lead Contest
The 2022 Kit Carson County Fair Sheep Lead Contest will be held Thursday, July 28 at 5 p.m. in Carousel Park. Contest superintendents Sheri Rider and Cassie Rider invite everyone, adults and youth alike, to enter the Open Class event.
This annual competition features a wool style outfit presentation, accompanied by the leading of a fitted lamb.
Judging criteria will include poise, personality and appropriateness of the outfit the contestant models and his/her ability to lead the sheep. The “Tiny Tot” class, for exhibitors ages 2-4, will be offered again this year.
Pre-entry is required for the contest. The standard entry tag (the small tag with duplicate copy) is to be used for Sheep lead entries. These entries must be turned in to the extension office by Friday, July 1 at 4 p.m. Late entries will be assessed a $10 fee.
An essay about the exhibitor’s wool outfit, activities, lamb and sheep interest must be turned in any time prior to 6 p.m. Monday, July 25 to the extension/fair office, or the $10 late fee will apply.
If you enter the contest and decide not to participate, you must notify one of the superintendents and the Extension/Fair Office prior to 6 p.m. Monday, July 25.
