Former Kansas City Chiefs whose playing days might be over

The Kansas City Chiefs have a good amount of former players still available to sign through free agency who we may have also seen play their final NFL snap

The Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed a lot of success since Andy Reid was hired as head coach. Since Reid took over in 2013, the Chiefs have seen hundreds of players come and go. Some former players have landed on other NFL teams or football leagues, while many others have outright retired from professional football. But what about former Chiefs, who are still unsigned, but not officially retired?

Here are four former Kansas City Chiefs whose pro football careers might be over.

Eric Berry

Eric Berry will most likely see his name in the Kansas City Chiefs Ring of Honor one day. He may be an odd selection for this list since many may have believed he already retired—including me. However, he actually isn’t technically retired and still has an interest in playing in the NFL again.

Despite the interest, I believe that Berry is done in the NFL as a player. As tough as it is, it probably is for the best. He struggled with various health issues throughout his career, including a successful battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and barely seeing the field during his final two seasons on the Chiefs. His last game in the NFL was the 2018-19 AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots.

This wasn’t a difficult pick but Berry has very likely put on an NFL helmet for the very last time. I would have a hard time believing that a team will sign him after more than three years removed from his last game.
