A semi tire on fire shut down one lane of Highway 63 in Northeast Missouri Thursday afternoon.
Almost a dozen fire extinguishers were no match for the burning rubber.
The fire happened at 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 63 and Hungry Hollow Road, two miles north of Kirksville.
The driver, from Sikeston, Missouri, told KTVO he had a blowout on the flatbed trailer just before the fire started.
A woman who was driving behind the big rig said she saw the trailer tire on fire and called 911.
The semi driver used a fire extinguisher on the flames, but it did no good.
Several employees from the nearby John Deere dealership rushed to help.
They went through 10 fire extinguishers, and that didn't work either to put out the burning rubber and wooden bed of the trailer.
Several minutes later, the Kirksville Fire Department arrived and got the fire put out with water.
The brand-new agricultural sprayer on the trailer was not damaged.
No injuries were reported.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for almost an hour.
