Longwood athletic director Michelle Meadows is leaving her post, the school announced on Wednesday.
Meadows has accepted a position at a “prominent national athletics organization”, according to a letter circulated by the university’s president announcing Meadows’ departure.
A former softball player herself, the 2022 season was Meadows’ fourth and final year as a member of the NCAA Softball Committee, the group tasked with selecting the NCAA tournament field and putting on the Women’s College World Series. She was due to rotate off the committee later this summer.
“The details will be made public later this week by her new organization, but Michelle has been tapped for an executive role that will expose her to a broad range of work in which she especially excels, as well as extend the involvement she’s had in sports nationally, such as her recent work in softball organizationally over the past several years at the national level through NCAA committee service — a sport she cherishes,” Longwood president Taylor Reveley said in the letter.
Meadows spent more than fifteen years in the Longwood athletic department, including the last three as the program’s athletic director. She also spent an eight-month stint as the interim AD before being elevated to the full-time role.
In 2010, Meadows was inducted to the Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame for her efforts as a Hokie softball player at the turn of the century. A four-year starter during her time in Blacksburg, Meadows was a three-time Academic All-American and was named the A-10 Player of the Year in her senior season.
