Two men have been charged in connection with separate copper theft investigations in Parkersburg, police said.
Travis Wineman was charged with felony destruction of property in connection with alleged copper thefts at Cornerstone Health Care earlier in the week, according to a news release from the Parkersburg Police Department.
Police said they initially received a report of a copper theft from air conditioning units at the facility on Monday. The units were destroyed in the process and are expected to cost more than $15,000 to repair.
Wineman, who became a suspect based on surveillance footage from Cornerstone, was spotted on Thursday with an alleged duffle bag full of copper that he later admitted to being from the air conditioning units. Police said he was reported then for allegedly attempting to steal copper in the 1800 block of Murdoch Avenue.
In a separate incident, Ronald Gillen was charged with petit larceny and destruction of property in connection with an alleged copper theft from an air conditioning unit at the Parkersburg Art Center on June 13, the police department said.
Police said Gillen was identified as a suspect through surveillance footage and when he was located by detectives allegedly confessed to the theft.
Anyone with information in the investigations is asked to call the Parkersburg Police Department at 304-424-1072.
