L.L. Bean donates $850K to University of Southern Maine
The University of Southern Maine’s faculty, staff and students gathered at the construction site of the school’s new Portland residence hall.
The gathering marks a celebration for the final beam going up and to unveil an $850,000 donation from L.L. Bean to the school.
The majority of the donation will go toward the career and success center but specifically for the new quad named the Bean Green.
“We believe being outside brings the best out of all of us and the goes for USM students, faculty, staff, employees and partners. They’ll soon be able to enjoy the beautiful green open space,” L.L. Bean's executive chairman Shawn Gorman said.
A total of $750,000 will go toward the new quad. The rest of the donation will go to permanently endowing the L.L. Bean Environmental Science scholarship.
