Funeral arrangements announced for Kentucky Power worker who died on the job

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - ***6/25 UPDATE***

Funeral arrangements for Wallace “Woo” Melton Jr. were released on Saturday.

Visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Monday, June 27, from 6-9 p.m.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home.

The burial will follow in the Adams-Lewis Cemetery located in Viper.

We have learned the name of the Kentucky Power worker who died.

The family said Wallace “Woo” Melton Jr., 58, was killed Thursday morning.

Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle says that around 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Melton was in his Kentucky Power truck on the right fork of Maces Creek in the Viper area when he went over an embankment.

“I’ve known him most of my life, he was a good man and friend to all that knew him,” said Sheriff Engle in a Facebook post Thursday evening. “He will be sorely missed in our community. My prayers are with his family, co-workers, and all that loved him.”

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

We are learning about a death involving a Kentucky Power worker.

Officials said the worker died in a car crash Thursday morning while working in the Hazard. We are told it was in the Viper area of Perry County.
