Commanders head coach Ron Rivera issued a statement on Wednesday to “clarify a few things” regarding the team’s workplace culture.

“When Dan and Tanya Snyder were in the process of hiring me they asked me to do two things,” Rivera wrote. “Win! And help us change our culture. So to be clear, on January 2, 2020, the day I was hired, we started putting into place tangible protocols in our efforts to correct any inappropriate workplace issues and improve our workplace environment.”

Snyder and the Commanders were under the microscope on Wednesday during the Oversight Committee’s congressional hearing, and could be put under it again as Snyder is expected to be issued a subpoena by congress. But Rivera wanted to make it known that any workplace culture that could be questioned came before he took the job.

“These investigations into inappropriate workplace issues pre-dates my employment,” Rivera said. “I cannot change the past, but I would hope that our fans, the NFL, and congress can see that we are doing everything in our power to never repeat these workplace issues.”
