CHP: 2 dead, 7 injured from Highway 129 crash
Two people were killed and more than a half-dozen people were injured following a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon near Aromas, the California Highway Patrol said.
Two pickup trucks, including one towing a fifth-wheel toy-hauler, crashed head-on while driving on Highway 129 around 3:45 p.m. The highway was closed for several hours as crews investigated and cleared the crash.
The CHP reported on Thursday that two people in a Honda Ridgeline, including the driver, were killed. Investigators identified the driver as Alex Mascarenoluque, 32, of Los Banos. The CHP did not release the name or age of the second male victim.
Two other passengers in the Honda pickup were taken to the hospital with major injuries, the CHP reported.
The five people in the second pickup were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The passengers included three children ages 10, 12 and 14, the CHP said. All five people are from Visalia, officers said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
