LANSING, MI -- A Delta County woman sure is happy that she was unable to play her favorite instant lottery ticket as changing things up led to a $1 million win recently.

“When I stopped at the store to buy a Lottery ticket, the clerk told me they had just sold out of the game I typically play, so I decided to buy a Lucky X50 ticket instead,” said the 65-year-old winner who chose to remain anonymous. “I scratched the ticket later that day and when I saw that I’d won $1 million, I started crying.”

The winner bought her Lucky X50 ticket at the North Bluff Grocery, located at 6287 M-35 in Gladstone. She visited lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. She elected to receive her prize as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $693,000 rather than the annuity. With her winnings, she plans on helping others.

“Winning is a fantastic feeling and will allow me to help a lot of people,” said the winner.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Warren last year went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
