Cal Fire has let an air tanker return to the Redding airport and canceled other incoming fire engines, an indication that firefighters are getting a handle on the Lake Fire.

Fire crews are at a vegetation that's burning behind the Ono fire station southwest of Redding.

The fire had grown to about 2 to 3 acres after it was reported about 9:35 a.m. Thursday in the area of Rainbow Lake Road.

Firefighters have asked for air tanker support and four water tenders.
