Police investigating Mountain View shooting
Suspect taken into police custody
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage police have arrested an injured suspect after a Thursday morning shooting in Mountain View that also left a woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
In an updated community alert, police reported that they are still investigating the shooting near Thompson Ave. While some officers remained on scene, many had cleared the area.
At 3:40 p.m., police reported that 22-year-old Claymonte Otero had been charged with first-and-third-degree assault as well as Tampering with Evidence and taken to Anchorage Correctional Complex in connection to the shooting.
Police also report that a man was arrested on an unrelated warrant while officers were conducting interviews.
Police said officers responded just before 8 a.m. to reports of people hearing multiple shots being fired in the area around Thompson Avenue. Police said they found the woman with a gunshot wound to her lower body, adding that they don’t believe the injuries to be life-threatening.
Police posted at 9:18 a.m. that a suspect was taken into custody, but was taken to the hospital with upper body gunshot wounds. A police spokesperson said the person — who was wanted for a previous felony warrant — would be taken to the department for questioning once released from the hospital.
Several others are being questioned about the shooting.
