A crash involving a semitrailer and dump truck on Interstate 10 in Okaloosa County blocked traffic for several hours Thursday morning and led to a second crash that seriously injured one driver.

The semi crashed into the dump truck after the driver failed to see the dump truck merge onto the highway from the shoulder. Only minor injuries were reported, according to the FHP.

Both westbound lanes of I-10 were blocked for about four hours after the crash. The Crestview Police Department and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office routed traffic off  I-10 onto State Road 85 in Crestview.

About an hour later, a Toyota 4Runner heading west on I-10 crashed into the rear of a GMC Sierra that was stopped in standstill traffic about 4 miles east of Holt, according to the FHP.

The driver of the Toyota, a 30-year-old Pace man, suffered serious injuries. However, the FHP said his injuries were “non-life-threatening.” No other injuries were reported.

According to FHP, there were “no criminal observations” in either crash. The Environmental Protection Agency responded because about 25 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road.
