GLADWIN, MI — Gladwin County’s second-ever Pride event is happening this weekend.
Gladwin Pride: Picnic in the Park is one of numerous LGBTQ+ Pride Month events happening across the region and state throughout June.
The family-friendly and pet-friendly event is scheduled to take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Gladwin City Park, 240 City Park St. All are welcome to participate in a Pride march through downtown Gladwin and pack a picnic lunch to enjoy afterward at the park, according to an event news release.
“They should just expect to have a good family-friendly time. Bring a picnic for you and your family,” said event organizer Julie Harrell-Dennis. “There’s also going to be a henna artist and some rock painting from the Gladwin Area Artists Guild, and we also have a couple comic book creators coming.”
The Gladwin Pride event will also include guest speakers, music, dancing, storytelling, and informational tables.
Harrell-Dennis hopes a crowd of about 100 will gather in Gladwin on Saturday. She said Gladwin’s first Pride event took place in 2020. However, organizers canceled the 2021 event because of inclement weather.
