An Ord man has been charged after thousands of dollars in tools were reported stolen from storage units in Ord.
Steven Wamsley, 42, is charged in Valley County Court with theft by receiving stolen property - $1,500 to $5,000 and habitual criminal.
Court records say Ord Police were called on May 16 to a storage unit in Ord after an individual reported a wooden storage box and cases of motor oil were stolen from it.
On May 20, officers responded to a second burglary at a storage unit in the 1100 block of South Second Street in Ord. A man reported multiple tools, an air compressor and extension cords were stolen from the unit.
On June 1, court records say Gabriele Herrmann – Wamsley’s mother – rented a storage unit in the 2400 block of Dane Creek Road in Ord. She was seen by the storage unit’s owner allegedly loading cases of the stolen tools into the unit.
Herrmann allegedly later told officers she received the stolen tools from Wamsley.
On June 3, court records say Herrmann told Ord Police she gave permission to Wamsley to use her vehicle to haul items to the storage unit.
Search warrants were later executed on two storage units and the stolen items were recovered. The items are valued at $4,372.
Hermann was initially charged in Valley County Court with aiding and abetting theft by receiving stolen property, but the state dismissed the charges without prejudice Thursday morning.
Court records do not list Wamsley's next court date.
