ALFRED LAMEE

ALFRED LAMEE

The funeral for Alfred LaMee, longtime Britton area farmer and horseman, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in Britton. Pastor Lance Griese will officiate. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will be at the Britton Cemetery.

Alfred LaMee was born on October 29, 1929, the last day of the Great Stock Market Crash known as Black Thursday. The oldest of five, he was adventurous from an early age. When he was three, he climbed to the top of the windmill. His mother couldn’t follow so just waited till he decided to come down on his own.

Alfred graduated from Britton High School before entering the US Air Force. He was stationed in Margate, England, where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Stokes. At a local dance, he noticed someone who he described as the “prettiest girl in the place”. After asking her father for her hand in marriage, Alfred and Yvonne were united for 63 years.

Along with his brothers– Deloar, Howard and Pat–and his sister, Ione, Alfred was raised around horses and dogs, and he never lost his love for both. He kept greyhounds and built a box for his pickup that held the dogs until he released them to chase a fox. Horses of all kinds had a place in his heart. From breaking two-year-olds to riding daily on the ranch, he alternately praised or cursed his horses. He taught his daughters to ride and later enjoyed showing registered paint horses with Yvonne.

Alfred was extremely proud of his daughters, Michelle, Jacqueline, Tracy, and Dawn. Whether they were riding horses, driving tractors, wearing their bikinis to “get a tan”, water skiing, or doing any of the many jobs around the house or the ranch, Alfred always encouraged his girls and never hesitated to brag about what they could accomplish. Later, his praise shifted to his grandchildren.

He died Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman, ND. He was 92 years of age.

Alfred is survived by daughters, Michelle (Les) Howard, Jacqueline Bartlett, Tracy Siebels, and Dawn LaMee; grandchildren: Sky (Ben) Stukel, Paige Haug, Kyle (Sami) Siebels, Hillary (Jesse) Dodson, Jenna (Colin) Friedrich, and Megan (Mat) Lynde; great grandchildren: Pierce and Dawson Stukel; Kadance and Tristan Haug; Tane, Cooper, and Harper Friedrich; and Griffin and Vaughn Lynde; and his siblings: Pat (Julene) LaMee, Howard LaMee, and Ione (Terry) Torngern.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Muriel LaMee, his wife, Yvonne, a granddaughter, Faye and a brother, Deloar LaMee.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Tracy Siebels – 10797 434th Ave – Britton, SD 57430.
