Elwood cancels its fireworks show due to dry conditions

People across the area are encouraged to postpone their own displays as well

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Elwood Fire and Rescue is calling off the village’s fireworks show, planned for the Fourth of July.

Authorities say it’s for the safety of the community due to exceptionally dry conditions.

The July 3 fireworks show at Johnson Lake is being postponed this year as well, until weather and conditions improve.

People throughout Gosper County are also being urged to take the same precautions.

The sheriff’s office says the risk of accidental damage to property and structures has the potential to be very high.

Earlier this year, a massive wildfire in the area scorched tens of thousands of acres.

Fire Chief Darren Krull was killed while responding to the blaze, which destroyed dozens of outbuildings as well.
