Bee Fork Restoration Project to be subject of public meeting today

ROLLA, Mo.— Forest Service managers are developing a forest management proposal for the Bee Fork Restoration Project, located in Reynolds County, Missouri. Comments and suggestions are being sought from the public about what opportunities or improvements are desired in that area of the Mark Twain National Forest. Information received from public comments will be considered during the environmental analysis of the project proposal.

“When developing a forest management project proposal, we always reach out to people for comments or suggestions on our proposal,” stated Krista Shelton Acting District Ranger for the Salem Ranger District.

The Bee Fork project is situated in the central portion of the Salem Ranger District, on federal lands east of Bunker, Missouri, in Reynolds County. The project area includes approximately 38,000 acres. The proposed management activities are intended only for National Forest System lands.

“We have studied the national forest resources in the Bee Fork area and have a proposal on how to manage the timber resources for restoration, improve watershed health, and provide habitat for wildlife,” said Shelton.

The Forest Service will host an Open House about the Bee Fork Project on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Mark Twain National Forest resource specialists will be on hand to answer questions, describe current forest resource conditions, and explain management activities proposed in the Bee Fork project. The Bee Fork Project Open House will be held at the Bunker Fire Department, located at 132 Missouri 72, Bunker, Missouri, 63629.

The Bee Fork project proposal, and how to provide comments, will be discussed at the Open House. When the project officially kicks off, supporting documents, including maps, will be on the Mark Twain National Forest Website at: www.fs.usda.gov/goto/mtnf/projects.
