JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KMOX) - Fixing Missouri's supply chain issues will take a wide ranging series of investments ranging from highways to ports to people.
That's the finding of a task force put together by Governor Mike Parson, which will submit its final report at the end of June.
Task Force Co-Chair Dr. Mardy Leathers says while infrastructure is important, so is investing in the people who will do the work, "obviously we need a lot of architects and engineers to help design the systems but at the same time we need a lot of individuals who can operate the shipping lanes, who can ensure we have enough truck drivers in Missouri."
One big issue that surprised Leathers is the need for more safe places for truckers to park for the night and to wait for loading. "Truckers may choose to route their loads outside of Missouri or outside of our lanes in order to have ample truck parking. But as important, next to our commerce sites and industrial sites, do we have adequate space for trucks to stage?"
Leathers says the report will list 33 recommendations which come from a series of public meetings around the state and other public and corporate input.
