New Green Bay Packers defensive tackle and former Alabama star Jarran Reed had a football skills camp at his alma mater, Goldsboro High School. It was the first time since before the pandemic that Reed was able to host the camp.
The camp consisted of two sessions, one with kids ages 8 through 12 and the other being ages 13 through 18 with the focus being drill rotations and specific skills by position group. Reed graduated as a Goldsboro High School Cougar in 2011, and he said it felt great to be back at his old stomping grounds helping out the community.
Reed also enters training camp next month with his third NFL team in the Packers, he said he's ready to get to work in Green Bay.
In Minor League Baseball, game two of the series between the Down East Wood Ducks and Carolina Mudcats came down to one hit.
A Daniel Mateo home run was the only hit the Wood Ducks got Wednesday night but it was enough for the 1-0 victory.
In the College World Series, only four teams remain as Ole Miss, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M are left.
The Sooners defeated the Aggies, 5-1, to advance to the final.
In high school basketball news, the Epiphany Falcons have a new head boys basketball coach in Michael Richards, who comes over from Wayne Christian where he coached the girls team.
Richards will also be the assistant athletic director at Epiphany.
In his four years at Wayne Christian, Richards was 56-28 and never had a losing season.
