One dead following crash at Mammoth Cave Road intersection

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Melanie Carroll, 25, of Goshen has been identified and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KSP.

Authorities stated Carroll was driving a 2001 Volvo westbound on Mammoth Cave Road when she failed to see a vehicle that was stopped in traffic in front of her, waiting to turn.

Carroll swerved left into the eastbound lane and collided head on with a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by Piotr Szymczyk, 44, of Bayonne, N.J.

Carroll was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroners Office, stated KSP. Authorities stated a passenger in Carroll’s car, Anna Dolliver, 24, of Lakeway, Texas, was flown to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Szymczyk was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

KSP was also assisted on the scene by Barren County Sheriff’s Office, Air Methods and Cave City Fire Department.

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Multiple agencies responded to a fatal crash Wednesday around 1 p.m. at Mammoth Cave Road and Rock Cabin Road.

According to Daniel Priddy, Kentucky State Police trooper and public affairs officer, one person was pronounced dead after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection.

Priddy said three people were injured. One of the three injured in the crash was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Right now, KSP is on the scene to understand exactly how the collision happened.
