FDL County Board Elects New Chairperson

The Fond du Lac County Board has a new chairperson.  Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman, who was the chairperson until he resigned after being elected county executive, chaired the meeting Tuesday night until a new chairperson could be elected. Steve Abel who has been on the board for more than 10 years was elected the new chairperson.  Abel was the county board’s Second Vice Chair. Marty Ryan will remain as the First Vice Chair and Supervisor Dean Will was elected Second Vice Chair.  Kaufman was elected county executive during a special election on June 7th. Longtime County Executive Allen Buechel died unexpectedly on March 27th with about 3 years left in his term.

New Dodge County Administrator

The Dodge County Board Tuesday night approved the hiring of Cameron Clapper of Whitewater, Wisconsin to serve as the County Administrator. Clapper will succeed Jim Mielke who retired on June 1st. Mielke had served as Dodge County Administrator since 2008. Clapper has been the Whitewater City Manager since 2012. Prior to that he was Whitewater’s Assistant to the City Manager from 2010 to 2012.  The Dodge County Executive Committee led the Administrator search, which began in March. Clapper was one of 17 applicants and three finalists for the position.  He will begin his new role with Dodge County on August 21st.

Second Round Of ARPA Funding Distributed

Wisconsin officials Tuesday announced a second round of American Rescue Plan Act funds being paid out to non-entitlement units of government. A total of 1,824 towns, villages and cities with populations under 50,000 will receive the over $205 million in relief funds. The City of Ripon will get $410,353.07, the Town of Ripon $72,273.64. The Town of Rosendale will get more than $36,000 ($36,476.99) and the Town of Waupun over $70,000 ($70,912.95). The City of Waupun will receive just over $586,000 ($586,091.57).  The City of Berlin is getting more than $281,000 ($281,820.08), the City of Green Lake over $50,000 ($50,502.58), the City of Markesan more than $73,000 ($73,320.32) and the City of Princeton just over $61,000 ($61,178.77).  The City of Waupaca will get over $312,000 ($312,383.30) and the City of Wautoma just over $112,000 ($112,100.02). The payments are being made on behalf of the U.S. Treasury Department. 

Farm Technology

Envision Greater Fond du Lac President and CEO Sadie Vander Velde says people will have a chance to see a robotic milking parlor at Dodger Acres in Rosendale during the Breakfast on the Farm this Sunday. She says today’s farmers are using more automation and robotics and it’s not the way some people may picture it. She says that’s why Envision’s efforts with other partners in Fond du Lac County to expand broadband are so important. She says broadband helps farmers in many different fashions. The breakfast at Dodger Acres is from 8 am to Noon Sunday. Tickets are available through Envision offices and their website, most banks; Bluemke’s Hardware in Rosendale and will be available at the farm.

Art For The Senior Center

Some Ripon Senior Citizens last week offered their ideas for art for the new Senior Center that is being built. Ripon Senior Activity Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says they got an idea about coming up with ideas for some ceramic mosaics. Ripon College Professor of Art Mollie Oblinger was on hand to help them with their ideas. Johnson says those seniors were asked to share their memories about time they’ve spent in parks over the years.  She says seniors who didn’t attend that function last week can still contribute their ideas. Paperwork is available at the Senior Center at City Hall or you can attend the picnic that will be held at Murray Park on July 8th.

Money From Country Breakfast Will Go Toward Ag Education For Students

Money raised through the Ripon FFA Alumni’s Country Breakfast last Sunday will allow them to fund scholarships and back other efforts supporting youth in FFA and agricultural programs. Kerrie Peth Stenholt of the Alumni says they award about $10,000 in scholarships each year to someone going into an agricultural career. They also fund educational events including trips to the farm for 4th grade students each year. She says a few years ago they paid for a van that Ripon FFA students could use to attend conventions and FFA functions. Last Sunday’s Country Breakfast was held at the Schram Farms in Berlin.

Community Fund Grants Awards

The Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation has awarded $26,298 in grants to 18 Dodge County nonprofit organizations for the spring grant cycle. Grant awards are made possible through generous contributions to the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation’s Community Fund which was created to provide funding to charitable organizations through the bi-annual grant cycles. Of the 18 grants, 17 were funded by the Community Fund and one was funded by the Heffron Family Fund. Advisory Board Chairman Tom Heffron says in just three years the Foundation has awarded nearly $95,000 ($94,648) to 33 Dodge County nonprofits.

FDL County Offices Closed On The Fourth

Fond du Lac County offices will be closed on Monday, July 4th for the observance of Independence Day. That includes the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac, Sheriff’s Office lobby window, Department of Social Services, including the offices in the Portland Street Annex, the Veterans Service Office and the Highway Department. The Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will be closed all day on the fourth as well.
