News briefs: Yoctangee Park Walking Tour this Sunday

Chillicothe Gazette

CHILLICOTHE — With Yoctangee Park a busy place for the summer, join Kevin Coleman on a walking tour of some of its history.

Meet at the gazebo to walk past and learn about the sulphur well under it, the eagles on the bandstand, the park lake and its outlet through a stone arch, the throwaway glass bottles under the park entrance, the industries that overlooked the former river channel, the famous baseball game at diamond number one, flooded cannons, the story of Memorial Hall & Armory and its monuments, and hints of the Pump House's watery history.

Two times on Sunday, June 26: a cool morning tour from 9 to about 11 a.m., and then an afternoon tour to prep you for a downtown dinner from 3 to about 5 p.m.

It is $10 for adults, $5 for students, $15 for families (with children).  This is not the big park event by the Chillicothe Restoration Foundation, but a walking tour by Kevin Coleman.

Contact Kevin at ihs@horizonview.net, phone 740-775-4036, text 740-771-8574, or message from this Facebook page.  If the weather is inclement, the tour will be rescheduled and those who have contacted me will be notified.
