Schaefers represent former sheriff on torch run

WAUSA – The Knox County part of the 2022 Cornhusker State Games Torch Run was held June 18, and Alexis and Abigail Schaefer, Marion, Iowa, great-granddaughters of former Knox County Sheriff Wes Eisenbeiss, were the first one-mile leg runners of many runners in the county.

The majority of the runners were members of the Bloomfield/Wausa cross-country team, along with one coach.

Isaac Schafbuch, a marketing intern for the Cornhusker State Games, provided support for the participants while Knox County Sheriff Don Henery directed traffic during the run.

Runners relayed the torch in onemile stretches on Highway 13 as it passed through Hadar and Pierce.

The torch run continued north on Highway 121 through Osmond and Wausa before turning west onto Highway 84.

Runners carried the torch to Bloomfield to conclude the route at the community’s Appreciation Dayz celebration.

Participants in the torch run had to deal with a 20-plus-mile-per-hour wind and temperatures in the upper 90s.
