During Wednesday’s Oversight Committee hearing looking into workplace misconduct within the Washington Commanders, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if he would remove Dan Snyder as owner of the team.
“I don’t have the authority to remove him,” Goodell responded.
Goodell was also asked if he would discipline Snyder for electing to not attend Wednesday’s hearing, either in person or remotely, and the commissioner responded, “I do not have any responsibility for if he appears before congress.”
Of course, Goodell is correct in that it would take votes from other owners to remove Snyder as Commanders owner, and Snyder wasn’t required to be at Wednesday’s hearing, citing his absence as related to a scheduling conflict. But it appears he will be required to testify at a deposition next week, as committee chairwoman Carolyn Maloney announced at the hearing that a subpoena is being issued to Snyder.
Goodell, while testifying, said that Snyder hasn’t been a part of the day-to-day operations of the Commanders for the past year.
