The flagger is in critical condition

Alleghany County police said a flagger was struck by a dump truck as it was backing up on 10:49 A.M., Tuesday morning at a road reconstruction site on Route 30/Ardmore Boulevard in Forest Hills. The flagger is in critical condition.

The incident occurred in an area where crews are replacing three culverts between the Parkway East interchange in Wilkinsburg and Yost Boulevard in Forest Hills. Joseph B. Fay Co. has a $13.7 million contract as the general contractor for the project.

A spokeswoman for Fay said the injured worker was employed by a subcontractor for the project but declined to say anything else because of the police investigation.

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), which is overseeing the project, said he had no details on the incident.

Right now, there is one lane of traffic operating in each direction on the inbound lanes of the highway while crews work on the outbound lanes. The inbound and outbound sides are separated by large islands with plants and trees.

About 32,000 vehicles use the highway daily.
