BOONE COUNTY, Ind.–A crash in Boone County caused one person to get seriously injured Wednesday morning.

Police started getting calls from people who had seen a car that had gotten wedged underneath a semi-tractor trailer on I-65 southbound just south of I-865. Two semis were involved.

“The preliminary investigation leads us to believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the back of a semi in the right lane. The semi was moving. It wasn’t parked or stopped,” said Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine.

Perrine says the car spun, hit another semi that was in the left line, and ended up back underneath the original semi. Then the car got wedged under the trailer.

Investigators do not believe the driver was thrown from the car. They think she either climbed out of the car on her own or was helped out by other people nearby.

The female driver of that car is seriously injured. No one else was hurt in the crash.

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for nearly five hours.

“Our priority is to get the investigation right, so it takes some time to do that. Fortunately, this location offered a convenient detour to 865 and 465. That really didn’t put people out of their way too much,” said Perrine.
