IRON RIVER —The West Iron District Library dove into its annual Summer Reading Program with the theme of “Oceans of Possibilities” on Tuesday, June 14.
The kick-off was a success, with over 100 readers registered on the first day.  The new Teen Summer Reading Program was a big hit with the older youth readers excited to jump into books for the summer.
Stephanie Swenski, Assistant Director and Program Coordinator noted about the event, “There is something magical about the excitement in the air and smiles on faces during registration for the Summer Reading Program.  Our young readers were walking out the door with piles of books that they could not wait to dive into when they got home.  The energy in the library during this event showed that every book really is an adventure for a child.”
There are two programs available. One is for ages 12 and under with weekly check-ins, fun craft projects, and weekly challenges. Participants can earn book bucks to purchase prizes at the end of the program.
Additionally, there is a teen reading program for ages 13-18 that is self-paced with a 1,000-minute reading goal. The teen program will offer prizes at the 250, 500, 750, and 1,000-minute benchmarks including grand prize drawings at the end of the six week program.
Further details can be found on the Facebook event or by calling the WIDL at (906) 265-2831.
