Mr. Charles Neal Turner Jr. passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the age of 82. After several months of declining health, he died peacefully with beloved wife Joan and loved ones by his side at home in Ellijay.

He was born in Atlanta Oct. 9, 1939, to Charles Neal Turner Sr. and Florine. The only son of three sisters he spent his childhood helping on his grandparent’s farm and cherished his grandmother. He attended Southwest DeKalb High School and spent the next four years chasing his two dreams, a football scholarship to UGA and the love of his life, Joan. I can proudly say he got both.

After a leg injury, he was unable to play football and began to climb the corporate ladder. He and Joan wed May 7, 1960, and he adored her every single day for 62 years.

Shortly after he enlisted in the Air Force, he became an aircraft mechanic and worked on planes to ensure the safety of our troops flying throughout the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He spent the rest of his career at Lockheed.

He and Joan had two daughters, Connie and Paige, five years apart. They spent many summers camping with their best friends Carolyn and Dale and the late Gilbert and Gail, a beloved pastime.

He really truly loved  UGA football, western movies, Bluegrass music, Grizzly Long Cut Straight and his four grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Ann, Emily and Joan.

He is survived by wife, Joan Turner; children, Connie deMontigny and Paige (Kevin) Reece; grandchildren, Nealy  (Joe) Rodriguez, Hunter deMontigny, Ty Reece and Noah Reece; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Nine Mile Methodist Church, 9252 Chatsworth Hwy. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in honor of his beloved wife, or in honor of his work with CASA, you can send donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
